kids.png

We are thrilled that you are considering Jerome Primary School as the setting for your child's Nursery year! We currently have 16 places available in our Nursery class and 16 places in our extended care (afternoon sessions). If there was a significant demand for our Nursery setting, we may look to increase our places available. We offer universal 15 hour places, 30 hours places, Rising 3s places and extended care sessions (for those not entitled to 30 hours but would like to pay for their child to stay all day). Further information regarding sessions offered can be found on the application form.

Unfortunately, due to the restrictions in place at the moment we are unable to invite Parents and Carers into school to look at our setting in person. We have done the next best thing and uploaded a video of our EYFS classrooms, outdoor area and Early Years Team along with some information slides below.

If you have any further questions please contact Mrs Halliwell (EYFS lead) reception@jerome-primary.org or the school office 01543 278595/ office@jerome-primary.org

Paper application forms are available by request via the school office.

The deadline for Nursery application for September 2021 is Friday 26th February 2021. You will be informed of the outcome of your application on or before Friday 26th March 2021. Applications can be returned to school by post or email- office@jerome-primary.org.

Your child's learning

We have a holistic approach to teaching the whole child, which is at the heart of the Early Years Curriculum. Throughout the course of the year, children experience meaningful and planned learning opportunities across all 7 areas of learning. Play based learning is encouraged through continuous provision and through careful observation we are able to identify next steps for each individual child. As much as possible we use real objects, authentic materials and open-ended resources as this creates a sense of ‘awe and wonder’ and provides a much richer learning experience. We are weather warriors and believe that nature and the outdoors can provide us wonderful opportunities every day. We believe there is no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing! We promote emotional well-being, togetherness and friendship in our environment so that children feel comfortable to explore, learn or to simply begin to figure out who they are as a tiny human in this great, big world!

We are Early Adopters of the New EYFS Framework that will be statutory in all schools in September 2021. More information can be found at:

30 Hours Extended Free Childcare Funding Information

From September 2017, the government extended the free childcare offer for eligible three and four year olds to 30 hours per week (1140 hours per year) for 38 weeks of the year. To qualify for the additional hours of free childcare, each parent (or the sole parent in a single parent family) needs to earn, on average, a weekly minimum equivalent to 16 hours per week at national minimum wage, and less than £100,000 per year. This extended childcare offer is flexible and families can use it to suit their needs. Self-employed parents and parents on zero-hours contracts will be eligible if they meet the average earnings threshold.

Parents can check if they qualify and apply for the extended entitlement at; www.childcarechoices.gov.uk

Parents who qualify for 30 hours funding will be given an eligibility code which must be submitted to the school for verification by the end of term before the child wishes to access their extended entitlement.  This will be requested when Induction information is sent out in May 2021. You will need to complete the Parent Declaration form that is attached below. This form needs to return to the school office or reception@jerome-primary.org. If you wish to have a paper copy please ask at the school office.

Allocation of Nursery Places:

Children will be given priority according to the following criteria.

1.    Children with educational, medical or social needs including looked after children. Applications on these grounds will have to be supported in writing by the relevant professional involved, such as Social Worker or GP etc.

3.    Children in our Nursery Year in receipt of 15 hours funding where parents request to pay for their children to complete full extended hours (until 3.15pm)

4.    Children who have siblings already attending Jerome Primary School.

5.     Distance from the school – calculated in a straight line from the central point of school site.
